Our September Grant Helped a Mother and Daughter Keep Their Home

A fresh start needs a safe place to land.
This September, Shine Forward Foundation awarded an Individual Emergency Relief grant to a woman working hard to keep a roof over her head and her daughter’s. A housing payment had come due at a moment when she could not cover it on her own. Our grant paid that cost directly to her housing provider, so she and her daughter could stay in their home and keep moving forward.
Every grant we award is paid directly to the vendor or service provider. This is how we honor our commitment to transparency, and it means every gift goes exactly where it is needed.
To everyone who gave, attended an event, or shared our mission, thank you. Your generosity helped a mother protect the most important thing she had: a safe home for her child.
October applications are under review
Our October application period closed on Monday, October 26. Our board is now carefully reviewing each application, and we will share news as soon as the grant is awarded. To every woman who applied, thank you for trusting us with your story.
November: honoring our hospitality community
In November, our grant will support a woman in the hospitality community. These are the women who welcome our guests, care for our visitors, and keep our coastal communities running, often while carrying more than anyone sees. I have spent 24 years in hospitality, so this grant is especially close to my heart.
The application will open in early November on the Programs page of this site. Please watch for it, and share it with a woman in hospitality who may need it.
How you can help
Every grant begins with small acts of collective giving. If you would like to help us award the next fresh start, you can give at theshineforwardfoundation.org/supportfreshstarts.
With gratitude,
